It all begins with a slight nod of the head and a camera at the ready. You’d be hard pressed to find a population quite as patient and accommodating when it comes to having their picture taken. India is such a country. Extraordinarily, it offers up a wealth of opportunities to come across people with a variety of expressive gazes, many bearing a somewhat penetrating and pure ‘look’. Quite simply, many facial expressions there (or ‘here’) seem able to restore our sense of purpose in life, while at the same time leading us to rediscover the fundamental purpose of our collective existence. All this appears to triggered by the power of a mere gaze.
